Holy Name Sunday-April 13th 2008 Holy Name Sunday begins with Mass & Corporate Communion at 9 o'clock in the Church of St. Peter. Afterwards, we will meet in the cafeteria for coffee and donuts and an important organizational meeting. The cafeteria will now be our regular scheduled meeting place since there are no coffee and donuts on the second Sunday of each month. It is my hope, with the additional space and convenience, we will be able to add new members and serve a greater presence to the church of St. Peters and the community we live in. Father chuck Henkle, our newly appointed Spiritual moderator, has some fresh ideas for monthly spiritual development and we hope to add some additional events and programs later this year. Please try to attend this organizational meeting to find out and give your input on becoming a more vibrant and spiritual Holy Name Society. 53rd Awards Banquet - April 27, 2008 The annual awards banquet will be help at Tom's Country Place on April 27, 2008. A social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the awards presentation to follow. We are honored to have Bishop A. J. Quinn as a guest speaker along with Father Tom Haren, the Cleveland Diocesan Union Holy Name Society Spiritual Director. Our own Fr. Chuck will be doing the invocation. On behalf of the officers of St. Peters Holy Name Society, I am proud to announce that we will be recognizing Richard Long and Millie Bengele as our 2007 "Member of the Year". I will be doing a write up of the contributions and dedication they have exemplified during their activity with the Holy Name Society. Additionally, Richard Meck our Treasurer will be receiving the Lorain County Deanery Person of the year!!! Congratulations to all and please help us celebrate their achievements by attending the 53rd awards banquet. The cost is $15.00 per person for Holy Name members. Please see the enclosed announcement for all the details. St. Peter Holy Name Membership Dues January through March is the annual membership drive and renewal of membership for St. Peters Holy Name Society. Once you join the Holy Name Society, you are always considered to be a Holy Name member for life. We asked for a $5.00 donation to help pay for some of our charitable contributions and help subsidize some of our spiritual and social functions. Name: __________________________________ Phone Number:___________________________ Adress: _________________________________ Amount Paid: ____________________________ During last years 52nd Lorain County Deanery Awards Banquet, St. Peters Holy Name Society, Honored Sister Teresa as our 2006 Holy Name Person of the year. SISTER TERESA LANGENDERFER: This person of the year was born in 1927 and grew up in Swanton, Ohio west of Toledo. Her home parish was Immaculate Conception in Marygrove, Ohio and was inspired by the Notre Dame Sisters as teachers to pursue a religious vocation. She made her vows in August of 1948 and taught school for 42 years which included 13 different school systems for 32 years and the final 16 years teaching 2nd grade at St. Peters Lorain. She was even a teacher for some of Robert Kennedy’s kids back in 1958. Although she is supposed to be retired, she continued to serve St. Peter’s Parish for 8 years in parish life ministry. Most of her time is spent visiting the homebound, helping in the school and being a Eucharistic minister to the sick. She enjoys music, concerts, playing cards and following Notre Dame Football. As a lifelong member of the Holy Name Society, she is always ready to participate in our spiritual and social activities. She co-ordinates the annual delivery of the Christmas Poinsettias’ to the homebound, gives us a hand at our annual pancake breakfast and attends the spiritual events of the Lorain County Deanery. She is such an inspiration to so many parishioners at St. Peters Church, that the Holy Name Society of St. Peter’s Lorain is proud to honor Sister Teresa Langenderfer as its 2006 Member of the year. Along with Sister Teresa receiving the person of the year award for St. Peters, the St. Peters Holy Name Society was awarded the annual Lorain County Deanery Spirit Award for 2006. This award is giving to the Lorain County Deanery Holy Name Society that continues to show an active presence at both the Deanery and Parish level. The banquet was attended by over 200 members from the many parishes of Lorain County. OTHER ITEMS: The Lorain County Deanery is holding a raffle that will be drawn at the Awards banquet on April 27th 2008. We are only selling 200 tickets at $10.00 per ticket. Each parish is expected to sell 10 tickets and the grand prize is $1,000. The Lorain County Deanery will make $800 from the raffle and the proceeds will benefit a charitable organization to be determined later. Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing a ticket because we are planning to have them all sold before the banquet. Anyone that has any pictures or historical St. Peters Holy Name Society Memorabilia, please bring it to our next meeting or forward it to Carm Januzzi (Centennial Memorabilia Person). I have a box of minutes and stuff that goes back to 1985 but do not have anything prior to that year. Also keep in mind we would want to sponsor an event for the Centennial Anniversary in 2009. Thank you and may all your families have a Happy Easter!!!!
