SAINT PETER’S
HOLY NAME SOCIETY

Minutes from March 13, 2005-Submitted by Jim Hodkey-Secretary

Tony Campana opened the meeting with the Holy Name Prayer.  Dick Meck reported we have 95 Holy Name members for 2005 as of today.  He also passed out wallet calendars received from the annual convention that includes the Holy Name pledge on the back of the calendar.  Dick announced that Tony Campana has been elected Holy Name person of the year for St. Peter’s Lorain and will be recognized at the 50th awards banquet on April 24, 2005 at Tom’s country place.  Social Hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by Dinner at 6:30 p.m., entertainment, and the awards program.  The cost is $10.00 per person for Holy Name members.

Millie Bengele reported that Lorain County would be receiving money to help our youngsters receive birth control devices and have access to getting abortions without parental consent.  What kind of message is being taught to our children?

To raise money for the 2006 annual National convention (Cleveland, Ohio), the Cleveland Diocesan Union is holding a raffle on May 13th with a grand prize of $10,000.  The cost of a ticket is $100.00 and only 300 tickets will be sold.  Each parish is encouraged to buy or sell 1 ticket.  The proceeds from the raffle will help subsidize the cost of the National Convention.  Anyone interested in purchasing a ticket please call Tony Campana 282-6999.

We will be holding a spaghetti dinner on April 17th 2005 in the school cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with the proceeds to benefit St. Peter School Scholarships.  Dale DiFrancesco will organize the cooking and tickets are $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.  Tickets will be sold after all Masses the weekend of April 3rd and April 10th.  We will need volunteers to cook and serve.

After an open discussion, the meeting was closed with an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be.

Please try to attend the Blessed John Vercelli Holy Hour on April 12th 2005 at St. Stan’s church-Lorain at 7 p.m.

Next meeting April 10, 2005 after the 9 o’clock Mass.

Holy Name Sunday-February 13, 2005

Holy Name Sunday begins with Mass at 9’o’clock at the Church of St. Peter. Afterwards, we will meet at the Parish Center for a breakfast and brief business meeting. Our cooks, Dale DiFrancesco, Richard Meck and Millie Bengele are preparing a gourmet breakfast for us. Also, I will share with you my recent trip to Mexico and the visit to Chichen Itza one of the most controversial, studied and visited ruins of the Mayan world.

Membership Drive

Our annual membership drive is underway with a small fee of $3.00 per member, of which $2.00 goes to the Cleveland Diocesan Holy Name Society to help subsidize numerous correspondences and services we receive during the year. I have found the Diocesan Union Board to be very organized with dedicated and hard working individuals from around the Cleveland Diocese. Currently, Millie Bengele is the Social Apostolate on the Diocesan Board and I represent Lorain County Deanery on the Board

A membership form for St. Peter’s is enclosed and can be mailed, or dropped off at the Parish Center or be paid at our monthly meeting.

January 9th Meeting-Minutes

Secretary: Jim Hodkey

Tony Campana read us Fr. Thomas Haren’s letter (See enclosure) that was printed in “The Namer” titled “Secularization of America.” Gratitude was expressed for attending Augie D’Orazio’s wake along with the Holy Name Society praying the rosary. All liked Augie and we will miss his jolly personality and his home made wine.

Millie Bengele reminded us about the video games that are out now with violence and sexual content. She recommended buying sports type games for our children and grandchildren. She reminded us about the evils of mercy killings

The membership drive starts today thru March and we will be updating the parish website to include St. Peter’s Holy Name Society information. We will try to recruit new members at the February meeting with a breakfast.

Bill Bengele encouraged us to participate in the Right to Life march coming up in Washington D.C. He asked us to support the parish pro-life committee as they are looking for new members. We agreed to participate in the Right to Life newspaper ad at a cost of $5.00

A Lenten Retreat will be held March 5, 2005 (See enclosure) at St. Joseph Christian Life Center at a cost of $30.00 per person. Bishop Pevec is the spiritual facilitator. To encourage Holy Name members to participate, a motion was made and approved to subsidize the cost by $15.00

April 17th is the tentative date to hold a spaghetti dinner with the proceeds to benefit St. Peter School Scholarship fund

The meeting was closed with an Our Father.

Other News

Once again, a 50-50 raffle will be held at our annual Lorain County Deanery awards banquet on April 24, 2005 at Tom’s country place. The proceeds benefit the Lorain County Deanery Scholarship fund as 6 students were awarded $300 each to apply towards Catholic High School tuition last year. Tickets will be available at the February 13th meeting.
