Notes from Meeting Held Thursday, November 11, 2004

Thank you to all who were able to attend the meeting. A lot of items were covered and I will try to briefly review them.   If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or another Eucharistic Minister.

  • DRESS
Fr. Ken addressed this issue stating that this is a most holy and sacred ministry and we should dress appropriately.   Comments were made mostly in the summer months but we should always be dressed in a fashion that would not offend anyone. (See enclosed handout for what is not acceptable dress) Even if you are not scheduled for a mass that you attend you should dress appropriately in case you are needed as a substitute.

  • PROCESSION
All Eucharist Ministers are to participate in the procession.  Exceptions would be for masses during Lent and Advent ONLY and this information will be noted in the monthly schedule.   You do not have to sit in the first pew you may sit with family members.

  • SUBSTITUTES
This seems to be an ongoing concern.  Before mass even begins a count will be taken to see how many Eucharistic Ministers are needed.  It is our responsibility to find someone attending mass that is a Eucharist Minister and ask him or her to fill in.   They are to join in the procession.   This will eliminate last minute counting or coming to the altar after communion is distributed.  A COUNT WILL BE TAKEN BEFORE MASS AND THE NUMBER OF EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED FOR THAT MASS WILL BE ASSIGNED AND WILL BE PART OF THE PROCESSION.

  • NEW PROCEDURES
    1. A Eucharistic Minister will no longer pour the wine into the cups.  Father will pour the wine into the cups when he returns to the altar from the Offertory.   This policy was changed to insure that none of the precious blood is spilled after it is consecrated.  This change will go into effect on the first Sunday of Advent, November 28th.
    2. Father is to distribute the cups and bowls.  Eucharistic Ministers are not to approach the altar and take them.
    3. After Father distributes communion and you have received the wine you are to approach Father at the altar to receive either the bowl or cup and go back to where you were standing until everyone has received both forms of communion and is given either the cup or bowl.  If you have the chalice that is used at the altar you are to go to the station on the choir side because of the amount of wine left in the cup.
    4. All wine is to be consumed before the end of mass.  If you are able to consume the wine please be aware of any wine left in the cups at the side table and consume it.
    5. Antibacterial wipes are available at the front of the church to be used to clean your hands before mass.

Thank you for your continued support and faithfulness to this ministry.
